The protagonist is Tokuko, a single woman in her 30s whose only redeeming quality is her diligence and dedication to her work. Day after day, she hones her sewing skills behind her sewing machine. A junior colleague she was close to gets married, and although she pretends to be happy, she is deeply shaken inside.
